Japan Underground Digest: Week 42
On the weekend of October 18-20, there's some grind & hardcore in the South of Japan, but some *gnarly* speed up North in Hokkaido.
Sorry for being so absent, folx, got nothing but excuses. Good ones, I think, but excuses nonetheless. Wanna know more? Check out one of these 2 other Substacks I run:
or .Then there’s
but honestly I haven’t even gotten around to anything but creating the account and pagination, no actual posting yet (but if you want to tell me what kind of vinyl you want delivered to you once a month, check it out anyway ^_^;)Blah blah blah, you want shows, I get it. So check out the deets on this überschau up in the Great Witchy City of Japan’s magnificent North, Sapporo, Hokkaido.
And then subscribe for even more, including those in bigger cities you’re more likely to be in.
The Bands
Döraid (Metal Punk, Tokyo)
Rising Fall (Heavy, Tokyo)
Butterfly (Hardcore, Sapporo)
Riffana (Heavy, Sapporo)
Birth Ritual (Metal Punk, Sapporo)
Revenger (Heavy, Sapporo)
Lay down yr souls to the god rock and rooooooooll, Birth Ritual. What a fuckin’ band. Total riff destruction. Hooks that the Cenobites’d be jealous of. I’ve only seen them, what, like 2 times live because I’m not often in Sapporo and they’re not often not in Sapporo, but good golly do I pick up what they lay down.
Döraid’s a great companion band for them, and probably the closest thing Tokyo has to offer to Birth Ritual’s excellence. I also think Rising Fall’s a good pairing, though they definitely fall more heavily on the Heavy side than the others.
The others? Sound great, haven’t seen them before.
The Venue: Zippy Hall
I have never been here, but it’s probably pretty excellent given it’s hosting this fuckin’ ripper of a show so shut up and go!
But Wait, There’s More!
